Hibernation The condition or period of an animal or plant spending the winter in a dormant state.
Poaching The illegal practice of trespassing on another's property to hunt or steal game.
Adaptation The action or process of adapting or being adapted.
Sustainable Forestry A forest that is carefully managed so that as trees are felled they are replaced with seedlings
Permafrost A thick subsurface layer of soil that remains frozen throughout the year.
Carnivore An animal that feeds on flesh.
Herbivore An animal that feeds on plants.
Omnivore An animal or person that eats food of both plant and animal origin.
Autotroph An organism that is able to form nutritional organic substances from simple inorganic substances such as carbon dioxide.
Heterotroph An organism deriving its nutritional requirements from complex organic substances.
Habitat Fragmentation The process by which habitat loss results in the division of large, continuous habitats into smaller ones.
Hypothesis A proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.
Keystone Species A species on which other species in an ecosystem largely depend on.
Prey An animal that is hunted and killed by another for food.
