QuestionAnswer
Matter Anything that has mass and takes up space
Mass amount of matter in an object
Volume the amount of space matter occupies
Irregular Object Non Geometric Shapes
Regular Object Geometric shapes
Density measure of the mass of a material in a given volume
Mixture made of two or more substances together in the same place, but the atoms are not chemically bonded
Substance A single kind of matter that is pure, meaning it always has the same makeup, or composition
Homogeneous Mixture evenly mixed so you can't see the different parts of the mixture
Atoms basic particle from which all elements are made
Molecules group of two or more atoms held together by chemical bonds
Physical Bond Force attraction that holds atoms
Chemical Bond force of attraction between two atoms
Chemical Formula a formula in which a compound is represented. it shows the elements in the compound and the ratio of atoms. (ex. C3H8)
Element A substance that cannot be broken down into any other substances (physically or chemically)
Compound Two or more elements chemically combined in a set ratio
Three States of Matter Are... Solid, Liquid, Gas
Physical Properties a characteristic of a substance that can be observed without changing it into another substance
Chemical Properties a characteristic of a substance that describes its ability to change into different substances
Physical Change Change in appearance, but does not change the substance
Chemical Change a change in matter that produces one or more new substances
Law of Conversation of Mass the fact that matter is not created or destroyed in any chemical or physical change
Energy Capacity to move
Endothermic Change a change in which energy is absorbed
Exothermic Change a change in which energy is released
Density of water is ____________ 1 g/cm3
Density formula is _____________ mass/volume
How to Find Mass... m/s2
How to Find Volume... length x width x height
The difference between a mixture and a compound is ________ mixture keeps its own properties. The compound has properties different from the elements it contains.
