Define Compounds, Elements, Mixtures, Solutions Compounds- Chemically united elements; Elements- Substances that can't be broken down any further; Mixtures- Non Chemically united elements; Solutions- two mixtures together.
Define difference between physical properties and chemical properties. Physical properties are considered: Color, odor, taste, and the makeup of the substance doesn't change. Chemical properties: Only observed when the substance interacts with other forms of matter.
What are the temperature zones for water. ( Freezing point, melting point, boiling point) Freezing point is the same as melting point, 0 degrees Celsius or 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Boiling point is 100 degrees Celsius or 212 degrees Fahrenheit.
Density? Mass/ Volume
Define endothermic and exothemic Exothermic-liberates heat. Endothermic- Absorbs heat.
Oxides- One element of oxygen and an element of something else. Combustion is a process where an element is burned in the presence of oxygen.
Isotopes Atoms of the same atomic number and different masses.
Ions- Cation and anion An anion is a negatively charged ion, a cation is a positively charged ion.
Bonds- Covalent and Ionic A covalent bond is the sharing of electrons between atoms, an ionic bond is the transfer of electrons between atoms.
The vertical columns on the periodic table are Groups or families
The rows on the periodic table are Periods
What are some groups on the periodic table Halogens, Noble gases, Alkali metals, Alkali earth metals.
Valence electrons Electrons on the outermost energy level of the atom.
Superscripts and subscripts Superscripts represent the oxidation number in the formula, where subscripts represent how many of that element there is.
Abbreviations for equations Symbols are abbreviations for elements, formulas are abbreviations for compounds, and an equation is an abbreviation for a chemical change.
Marie and Pierre Curie discovered what elements? Polonium and radium.
Ernest Rutherford found what types of radiations? Alpha, Beta, Gamma!
