short story a brief work of fiction that can usually be read in one setting
setting the time, place and background of a story
satire a literary technique in which ideas or customs are ridiculed for the purpose of improving society
synecdoche a form of metaphor in which a part represent the whole
tone the attitude a writer takes toward a subject
theme an observation that the writer is making about human experience
third person limited point of view the story is told by a narrative voice outside the action, not by one of the characters. It tells what a limited amount of characters think, feel and observe.
third person omniscient point of view narrator is outside the story and all-knowing
