Figurative Language

| hyperbole | expresses extreme exaggeration |
| metaphor | compares two items by renaming them (uses are, was, is...etc.) |
| idiom | an expression that can't be taken literally |
| personification | giving a non-living thing human like qualities |
| simile | comparing two or more things using "like" or "as" |
| alliteration | the repetition of the same sound or letter |
| onomatopoeia | a word which sounds like a noise being made |
| noun | a person, place, thing, or idea |
| onomatopoeia | The cereal went SNAP, CRACKLE, POP when he poured the milk at breakfast. |
| personification | The leaves whistles in the rain. |
| simile | Her face turned red as a beet when she tripped and fell. |
| metaphor | The moon was a bright ball of smoke in the night sky. |
| idiom | The test was smooth sailing. |
| alliteration | Linda liked laughing and licking lollipops. |
| hyperbole | Her dad was so strong he could lift two tons! |
