closed syllables

A closed syllable has short vowel sounds
A closed syllable has one or more consonants after the vowel to close the door on the vowel
A digraph is two letters one sound
Vowels are a, e, i, o, u
A blend is two or more consonants together. Each consonant has a sound.
st is a blend
ch is a digraph
bl is a blend
th is a digraph
wh is a digraph
ck is a digraph that is always at the end of a word
sh is a digraph
mp is a blend
luck has a digraph
mash has a digraph
A closed syllable has only one vowel
A short vowel sound is marked with a breve
shift means to move a little.
We tap out sounds so we can spell them
sl is a blend
th is a digraph
Phonetic words are words we can tap out
High Frequency Sight Words we cannot tap out. We have to memorize the spelling.
one is a High Frequency Sight Word
shred means to cut into small parts
