Social Studies - Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, and Mary Musgrove

James Oglethorpe started a colony in _____________________. Georgia
The Creek and settlers agreed to __________________ in order to live in peace. They traveled between Savannah and the Creek village to bring goods to each other. trade
Who is Tomochichi? A Creek Indian who worked with James Olgethorpe and helped start the colony of Georgia by agreeing to live in peace with the settlers. He was the chief of the Yamacraws.
Who is James Olgethorpe? An Englishman who started a colony in Georgia so that people could have a better life by working and getting paid.
What was the first city in Georgia? Savannah

civility being polite and kind to others - getting along
Who is Mary Musgrove? A dependable Creek woman who spoke both Creek and English. She helped James Oglethorpe and Tomochichi communicate with each other.
Who is King George? The King of England who Georgia was named after.
rivers A narrow stream of flowing water. It is a natural resource because it provides water for people. Many people would build towns near them because of this.
interpreter A person who helps people that speak different languages communicate (or talk) with one another. Mary Musgrove was one.
Yamacraw Bluff Tomochichi's village
settler a person who travels to and settles (or lives) in a new area
colonist a settler of a colony
trading post A place where people can exchange, or trade, goods. Mary Musgrove and her husband built one for the settlers and Native Americans.
