| Tigris and Euphrates | Rivers surrounding Mesopotamia |
| Scribes | The people that wrote and kept records |
| Hittites | This Mesopotamia group made iron weapons; very strong army! |
| Hammurabi's Code | First written set of laws/an eye for an eye! |
| Phoenicians | Mesopotamia people who were great ship builders and created modern alphabet! |
| Ziggurats | Religious temples in Sumer! |
| Cuneiform | Sumerian writing that uses wedge-shaped characters |
| Fertile crescent | Crescent-shaped region containing moist and fertile land |
| Wheel | Sumerians invented this; helps with transportation! |
| Cataracts | Rapids formed caused by rough terrain; waterfalls |
| Delta | A triangle-shaped area of land made from soil deposited by a river |
| Nile River | The longest river in the world |
| Upper Egypt | Located in the southern section of Egypt |
| Lower Egypt | Located in the northern section of Egypt |
| Pharaoh | The title used by the rulers of Egypt |

| Mummies | Specially treated bodies wrapped in cloth; used to protect body in afterlife |

| Red Land | deadly desert on outer sides of the Black Land |
| Hieroglyphics | Egypt´s form of writing; one of the first in the world |
| Rosetta Stone | same message was written in 3 languages on it; one was Hieroglyphics and this was the key that unlocked the Egyptian language |
