| Round character | A complex character who exhibits many personality traits, faults as well as virtues |
| Flat character | A one-dimensional character – a character who exhibits limited qualities |
| Climax | the highest point of interest in the story – the turning point |
| Cliché | overused expression or idea that has lost its original quality or effect |
| Conflict | a struggle between two opposing forces |
