Vocab. WordDefinition
Form the physical arrangement of the words on the page (length and placement of the lines and the way they are grouped)
Stanzas they way poems are grouped, like paragraphs
Free Verse no strict or formal pattern
Alliteration a repetition of initial consonant sounds in nearby words
Rhyme a repetition of final sounds in two or more words
Rhyme Scheme pattern formed by the rhymes at the end of the lines
Onomatopoeia words that sound like what they are refering to
Rhythm pattern or beat of stressed and unstressed syllables in a line of poetry
Imagery` Words that put a picture in your mind including smell, taste, hear, feel, or see
figurative language a technique of imagery that conveys meanings beyond the literal meanings of the words
simile comparison of two different things using like or as
metaphor a direct comparison of two different words
Personification giving human qualities to animals, inanimate objects, or ideas
