realism fidelity to actuality in literature
refrain a phrase or line pertinent to the central topic; repeated at regular intervals throughout a poem, usually at the end of a stanza
resolution the part of a story or drama which occurs after the climax and establishes a new norm, a new state of affairs - the way things are going to be from then on
rhetoric the art of speaking or writing effectively
rhetorical device device used to produce effective speaking or writing
rhetorical question a question solely for effect, with no answer expected
rhyme scheme a pattern of rhyming words in a stanza
rhyme similarity or likeness of sound; internal or at the ends of lines of verse in poetry
double rhyme a rhyme in which the repeated vowel is the second last syllable of the words involved; a form of feminine rhyme
end rhyme both rhyming words are at the end of the lines
feminine rhyme when the sounds involve more than one syllable
identical rhyme preceding consonant sound is the same, or if there is no preceding consonant sound in either word, or if the same word is repeated in the rhyming position
internal rhyme when one or both rhyming words are within the line
masculine (single) rhyme when the sounds involve only one syllable
triple rhyme a rhyme in which the repeated accented vowel sound is in the third last syllable of the words involved
