TermDefinition
Chemistry the study of the properties of matter and how matter changes
Matter anything that has mass and takes up space
Mass a measure of how much matter is in an object
Physical Property characteristic of a substance that can be observed without changing it into another substance
Chemical Property characteristic of a substance that describes its ability to change into a different substance
Solubility the ability of a substance to be dissolved into a liquid
Indicator a compound that changes in the present of acids or bases
Volume the amount of space the matter occupies
Density the measurement of how much mass of a substance is contained in a given substance
Atom the basic particle from which all elements are made
Protons a particle that has a positive charge
Neutrons a particle that has no electric charge
Electrons a particle that has a negative charge
Atomic Number the number of protrons in a nucleus of its atom
Atomic Mass the number of protrons and neutrons in its atom
Molecule group of two or more atoms held together by chemical bonds
Element a pure substance that cannot be changed into a simpler substance
Metals and Nonmetals two major groups of elements that have different physical properties
Metalloids have both properties of metals and nonmetals
Chemical Bond the force of attraction between two atoms
