Pyrrhic metrical foot consisting of two unaccented syllables
Dipod basic foot of dipodic verse; consists of an unaccented syllable, a lightly accented syllable, and unaccented syllable, and a heavy accented syllable in that succession
Spondee metrical foot consisting of two syllables equally, or almost equally, accented
monometer line of one metrical foot
dimeter line of two metrical feet
trimeter line of three metrical feet
tetrameter line of four metrical feet
pentameter line of five metrical feet
hexameter line of six metrical feet
foreshadowing arrangement and presentation of events and information to prepare for later events

frame a narrative constructed so that one or more stories are embedded within another story
free verse unrhymed poetry with lines of varying lengths; no specific metrical pattern
