Gender of nouns and articles | Nouns that end in -o or -ema are almost always masculine. Nouns that end in -a, -ad, or -ion are almost always feminine. Common exceptions are: el día, la clase, el mapa. |
Nouns that refer to persons | take on the gender of the person they refer to. Examples: la mujer, el hombre, la profesora, el profesor, la niña, el niño, la estudiante, el estudiante. |
Making plurals of articles | el changes to los la changes to las Ún changes to unos Una changes to unas |
Making plurals of Nouns | vowel ending changes to vowel + -s Consonant ending changes to consonant + es. Ends in -z ∆s to -c (+es). |
Placement of adjectives | Adjectives come after the noun. There are exceptions, but not 'til later chapters. |
Adjective number and gender | matches that of the noun they modify. |
