| hydrochloric acid | chemical which destroys most of the harmful bacteria in your stomach |
| lysozyme | enzyme that kills bacteria in your tears and perspiration |
| cerebrum | largest part of the brain that controls thinking, reasoning, and memory |
| central nervous system | consists of the brain and spinal cord |
| olfactory | nerves that help you smell |
| auditory nerve | nerves that help you hear |
| auditory canal | outer ear to the eardrum canal that carries sound waves |
| nerves | wires of your communication system |
| lymph vessels | transportation tubes for lymph |
| lymph nodes | enlarges bunches of lymphatic tissues |
| lymphocytes | white blood cells inside lymph nodes |
| spleen | largest lymphatic organ |
| sclera | outer layer of the eye |
| iris | gives the eye its color |
| eye socker | hollow space in skull that surrounds each eye |
| pupil | center of the iris through which light passes |
| lens | part of the eye that thickens with close objects and thins with far away objects |
| optometrist | person trained to examine eyes and prescribe glasses |
| cerebellum | part of the brain that helps with balance and coordination |
| spinal cord | bundle of nerve fibers that extend from the brain stem to the lower part of the back |
| left hemisphere | part of the brain that communicates with the right side of the body |
| outer ear | part of the ear that catches sound |
| eardrum | thin membrane that separates the outer ear from the middle ear |
| reflex actions | unconscious actions such a jerking your hand from something that is hot |
| motor nerve fibers | sends orders for action from the brain and spinal cord to the muscles |
