| tribute | Payment by one nation to antoher for protection, money extorted by threat of violence |
| oracle | A person who divines the future, a shrine where an oracular god is consulted |
| banishment | The state of being banished or ostracized from society |
| helm | Mechanism for steering a vessel, a position of leadership |
| plague | Any epidemic disease with a high death rate, a large scale calamity (especially when thought to be sent by God) |
| indictment | An accusation of wrongdoing |
| scoundrel | A wicked or evil person, someone who does evil deliberately, a villain |
