QuestionAnswer
foil A character used to contrast another character.
subplot A plot secondary in importance to the main plot.
imagery Descriptive words or phrases to create images in the readers mind.
climax The turning point in a literary work.
rising action The action and events leading up to the climax.
tragic flaw The flaw in a character that leads his/her downfall.
romanticism Literature emphasizing emotions and imagination.
foreshadowing The act of hinting at things that follow.
dramatic irony When the reader knows something that a character does not.
falling action Events following the climax leading to the conclusion of the work.
pathos An element that arouses pity or compassion.
static character A character who remains the same throughout a work.
motif An often-repeated idea or theme in a story.
dynamic character A character who changes in a work.
hubris Excessive pride or confidence.
