What is area and how can we use it in maths and the real world?

| Formula to calculate area of a quadrilateral? | Length x width |
| SI unit? | m2 (meters squared) |
| Area of a triangle? | 1/2 x base x perpendicular height |
| Area of a circle? | pi x r2 (pi x radius squared) |
| What information do we need to know to find the area? | Length and width of the shape |
| What instruments can be used to measure the sides of the shape? | Meter sticks, rulers, trundle wheels |
| How can the area of a 3D (three dimensional) shape be found? | Find each individual area of each shape in the 3D net and add them together to find the total surface area |
| How can the area of complex shapes be found? | Divide the shape into smaller shapes where the area of each individual is easier to find. Add area of smaller shapes together for total area of the complex shape |
| What would you use to measure the area of a football field? | Measure sides with trundle wheel. Use L x W formula to find the area. |
