At the beginning of Act II, John Proctor says, "It is winter in here yet." What does he mean by this? There is no warmth in their home
Why is this pertinent to what is going on? John and Elizabeth are not in a happy Marriage.
At the beginning of Act II, why does Elizabeth first want John to go to Salem? She wants him to tell the court that the accusations are fraud and that Abigail told him that the girls were just playing.
Why does John get so upset with Elizabeth? He is upset because she has not forgiven him.
What is really bothering Elizabeth John was alone with Abigail and that he seems to be protecting her.
Why has Mary Warren disobeyed the Proctors and gone to Salem? She feels that it is her duty to give witness to what was happening. She is an "official" of the court.
What gift does Mary Warren give to Elizabeth Proctor? She gives her a poppet (a rag doll)
What does Mary Warren tell the Proctors about what is going on in Salem? 39 were arrested, Goody Osburn will hang. Sarah Good confessed that she wrote her name in the devil's book with her blood.
What shows you that Mary Warren is an unreliable witness in court? (2 ways) She does not know what she is going to say she uses spectral evidence as proof
Explain the irony of why Goody Osburn is going to be hanged and Sarah Good is not? Sarah Good will be not hang because she confessed she compacted with the devil.
What does Mary Warren mean when she says, "I saved her life today!"? She defended Elizabeth when they accused her.
According to Elizabeth, what is Abigail's true objective in court? She wants Elizabeth dead.
Just before Rev. Hale arrives, what does Elizabeth now want John to do in Salem? She wants him to tell Abigail that he is not interested with her and will never be with her.
Why has Rev. Hale become suspicious of the Proctor and come to visit them at home? He is rarely at church and one of his sons is not baptized
Why has John Proctor not been attending church, and why has he not had his youngest son baptized? He doesn't like how Rev. Parris runs the church
What is ironic about the Commandment that John's Proctor couldn't remember for Rev. Hale? He forgot Adultery which he is guilty of.
Why has Rebecca Nurse been arrested? She was charged for the supernatural murder of Goody Putnam's babies
Why has Martha Corey been arrested? Walcott charged her of bewitching the pigs.
What terrible thing happened to Abigail Williams? What does that have to do with Elizabeth Proctor? Abigail was stabbed with a needle. Elizabeth's spirit apparently stabbed her
What does John Proctor think actually happened to Abigail Williams? Abigail Stabbed herself.
Who saw Mary Warren sewing in court? Who can you infer encouraged her to give the poppet to Elizabeth Proctor? Why would she do that? Susanna Walcott and Abigail saw her sewing. Abigail encouraged Mary to give the poppet to Elizabeth. She is planning to accuse her of stabbing her/witchcraft.
What does John Proctor want Mary Warren to testify to in court? He wants her to say how the poppet got into their house and who stuck the needle in it.
Why does Mary Warren Not want to testify in court? She does not want to charge Abigail with murder because she is afraid Abigail will kill her.
Mary Warren is first introduces as: Subservient, naive and lonely
Mary Warren now seems more like: Bratty, confident, and carries a lot of importance
What caused the change in Mary Warren? She is now an official of the court.
Reverend Hale is first introduce as; Confident, proud, eager eyed.

Abigail Williams now seems more like; cunning, plotting
What caused the change in Abigail Williams? They are the center of attention. People are listening & believing what they were saying. She has control.
