assonance the pattern of repeating a vowel sound at the beginning, middle or end of words
assonance /ee/- "the wheeler-dealer who buys and sells land"

consonance the pattern of repeating consonant sounds in the middle and at the end of words
consonance /w/- "the heavy sun wanders westward / on yellow circus wagons"
hyperbole a heightened exaggeration to create emphasis, humor or other emotion
hyperbole "The Moose turns, dragging half the lake out after him"
metaphor comparing two different things, based on some shared trait, behavior or characteristics... but without using the words 'like' or 'as'
metaphor can be indirect or vague: "He tries to think, / leaning his huge weight / on the lectern of his legs"
metaphor can be direct or explicit: "you ARE a four pronged magic wand, / waving... in all directions at once"

personification giving an inhuman object, animal or thing human qualities, emotions and intentions

imagery words or phrases that tap into vivid sensory experiences, appealing to our senses of touch, taste, hearing, smell and sight

allusion She has a great mind for business, she has the Midas touch with startups!
idiom an expression that people within a culture understand figuratively, not literally (because it wouldn't make sense); "The words are on the tip of my tongue."
idiom It cost me an arm and a leg to score those Imagine Dragons tickets!
idiom When my friend wanted to cheat off me, I was between a rock and a hard place.
idiom It really burns me up when people aren't grateful for what they have!
allusion Letting your friends play Cupid and set you up on a blind date can be a mistake!
