Math Vocab

Intiger A set of whole numbers and their opposites
Absolute Value The distance between a number 0 on a number line . The absolute value of a number.
Opposites Two numbers that are the same distance from 0 on a number line, but opposite sides of a number line.
Additive inverse The opposite of a number
Associative property of addition Changing the grouping of addends but does not change the sum.
Associative property of multiplication Changing the grouping of factors but does not change the product.
Commutative property of addition Changing the number of addends but does not change the sum.
Commutative property of multiplication Change the order of factors but does not change the product.
Distributive property To multiply a sum or a difference by a number multiply each number in the sum or difference by the number outside the parenthesis.
Order of operations The order in which to perform operations when evaluating expressions with more than one operation.
Rational number A symbol that is used to represent the square route
Whole number The numbers 0,1,2,,3,4,5,6,7,etc
Terminating decimal A decimal that ends
