Vocab for Math Chapter

TermDefinition
Integer The set of whole numbers and their opposite
Absolute value The distance between a number and 0 on a number line; THe absolute value of a number a is written as /a/.
Opposites Two numbers the same distance from 0 on a number line; but on opposite sides of 0.
Additive inverse The opposite of a number.
Associative Property of Addition Changing the grouping of addends does not change the sum.
Associative Property of Multiplication Changing the order of addends does not change the sum.
Commutative Property of Addition Changing the order of addends does not change the sum.
Commutative Property of Multiplication Changing the order of the factor does not change the product.
Distributive Property- To multiply the sum or difference by number, multiply each number in the sum or difference by the number outside the parentheses, The evaluate.
Order of Operations- The order in which to perform operations when evaluating expressions with more than one operation.
