| box plot | a graphic way of showing a summary of data using the median, quartiles, and extremes of the data. |
| double-peaked | description of the overall shape of a a data distribution that has 2 peaks |
| first quartile | the median of the lower half of an ordered set of data |
| histogram | A way of displaying data that is much like a bar graph in that the height of the bars is proportional to the number of elements |
| interquartile range (IQR) | a way to measure the spread of data |
| maximum | the highest value |
| mean | average |
| mean absolute deviation | a method of measuring the spread in a set of data by calculating the average distance each data point is from the mean |
| measures of central tendency | mean and median |
| median | the middle number of an ordered set of data |
| minimum | the lowest value |
| outlier | a number in a set of data that is much larger or smaller than the other numbers in the set |
| quartiles | divide a set of data into four groups of the same size |
| range | difference between the largest and smallest values |
| rate | A ratio comparing two quantities |
| ratio | compares two quantities by division. |
| single-peaked | description of the overall shape of a a data distribution that has 1 peak |
| skewed | a description of the overall shape of a a data distribution that gradually gets larger or smaller |

| stem-and-leaf plot | a frequency distribution that arranges data into "stems" and "leaves" |
| symmetric | a description of the overall shape of a a data distribution that starts high, goes low and ends high |
| third quartile | The median of the upper half of an ordered set of data |
| uniform | a description of the overall shape of a a data distribution that is steady throughout the graph |
