TermDefinition
box plot a way of displaying data based on the minimum, first quartile, median, third quartile, and maximum.
coefficient A number multiplying a variable or product of variables.
constant of proportionality two proportional quantities x and y; usually written y = kx, where k is the constant
Fraction Busters a method of simplifying equations involving fractions that uses the Multiplicative Property of Equality
first quartile middle number between the smallest number and the median of the data set.
Giant One A fraction that is equal to 1.
histogram A way of displaying data that is much like a bar graph in that the height of the bars is proportional to the number of elements
interest an amount paid which is a percentage of the initial amount
Interquartile range(IQR) A way to measure the spread of data
mean average
median middle number in a list of numbers from smallest to largest
measures of central tendency Mean, median, and mode
outlier A number in a set of data that is much larger or much smaller than the other numbers in the set.
principal the initial amount
percent change how much a variable gains or loses
proportional relationship A relationship between two equal ratios
rate A ratio comparing two quantities
scale The ratio between a length of the representation and the corresponding length of the actual object.
similar figures figures have the same shape but are not necessarily the same size
stem-and-leaf plot A way of displaying data values that is made by arranging the data with the vertical, consisting of the first digits of the data and the horizontal, that show the remaining digits.
third quartile the middle value between the median and the highest value of the data set.
