additive inverse | The number needed to add to a given number to get a sum of 0. |
algebraic expression | a combination of individual terms separated by plus or minus signs |
Associative Property | a + (b + c) = (a + b) + c |
Commutative Property | a + b = b + a |
evaluate | substitute the value given, for the variable and perform the operations according to the order of operations |
multiplicative inverse | the number we can multiply by to get 1 |
Order of Operations | the specific order in which operations are performed to evaluate expressions: PEMDAS |
numerical term | relating to or expressed as a number or numbers |
quotient | the answer to a division problem |
rational numbers | numbers that can be written as a fraction |
reciprocals | the multiplicative inverse of a number |
simplify | to write a less complicated expression with the same value |
substitution | replacing one symbol with a number, a variable or another algebraic expression of the same value |
