| additive inverse | The number needed to add to a given number to get a sum of 0. |
| algebraic expression | a combination of individual terms separated by plus or minus signs |
| Associative Property | a + (b + c) = (a + b) + c |
| Commutative Property | a + b = b + a |
| evaluate | substitute the value given, for the variable and perform the operations according to the order of operations |
| multiplicative inverse | the number we can multiply by to get 1 |
| Order of Operations | the specific order in which operations are performed to evaluate expressions: PEMDAS |
| numerical term | relating to or expressed as a number or numbers |
| quotient | the answer to a division problem |
| rational numbers | numbers that can be written as a fraction |
| reciprocals | the multiplicative inverse of a number |
| simplify | to write a less complicated expression with the same value |
| substitution | replacing one symbol with a number, a variable or another algebraic expression of the same value |
| terms | a single number, variable, or the product of numbers and variables |
| integers | the set of numbers (...-3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, ...) |
