What is Central Service? | A central place where surgical instruments and patient equipment are received soiled and returned either sterilized or disinfected. And ready for the next surgical procedure or patient care. |
What are the benefits of "Centralized work"? | One standard, under one Director. Fewer people are able to process a large volume of work in the least amount of time. It eliminates the cost of duplication. |
Central Service has a one way work flow. Items start in Decontamination. What are the next steps? | Preparation and Packaging, Sterilization and Sterile Storage. |
What happens in Decontamination? | Devices and instruments that arrive here are considered contaminated. They are then sent through a physical or mechanical chemical process. |
What happens in Prep and Pack? | Instruments are inspected, sorted, assembled, packaged and labeled for sterilization. |
What happens in Sterile Storage? | Supplies and sterile instruments are received, stored and dispensed here. |
What is the first step in sterilization? | Cleaning |
What must you look for during inspection? | The item is clean, work properly, not damaged and properly sterilized in the correct package. |
