| What is a verb? | A doing word or an action which describes a noun |
| What is a noun? | A name or a place of someone or something |
| What is an adjective? | Describes a noun |
| What is an adverb? | Modifies a verb |
| What are adverbs of manner? | They modify verbs (e.g we ran- Quickly, Slowly, Definitely) |
| What are intensifying adverbs? | They modify adjectives and adverbs (e.g - Exceedingly, largely) |
| What are adverbs of time? | They explain the duration, frequency and period of time when an action takes place (e.g- On Monday, For a Month) |
| What are adverbs of place? | They express position, direction and distance (e.g- In London, To Town, On the Table) |
| What are regular verbs? | They use the suffix- ed in the past tense |
| What are irregular verbs? | They use another form in the past tense (e.g 'bought') |
| What are stative verbs? | They tell you about the state of something (e.g-'is', 'am', 'believe', 'know', 'was' |
| What are dynamic verbs? | They can convey an action (e.g. 'kick', 'bend', 'jump') |
| What are modal verbs? | They convey a range of attitudes and moods about the likelihood of an event taking place |
| What are common nouns? | They classify things into types or general categories: 'car, dog, flower, chair' |
| What are proper nouns? | They refer to specific people and places and are usually written with an initial capital letter: 'England, Luton' |
| What are collective nouns? | They name a complete group or set of people, animal, or things: 'Choir, army, herd, family') |
| What are concrete nouns? | They refer to physical things like people, objects and places, things that can be observed and measured: 'guitar, table, clothes, brother' |
| What are abstract nouns? | They refer to ideas, processes, occasions, times and qualities; they cannot be measured, touched or seen in the same way as concrete nouns: 'happiness, freedom, birth anger, hunger' |
| What are descriptive adjectives? | They tell us factual information such as size, shape, colour etc. |
| What are evaluative adjectives? | They show us the attitude of the speaker/writer |
| What are emotive adjectives? | They evoke an emotional response from the reader |
| What are auxiliary verbs? | They are ‘helping’ verbs which assist the lexical verb in a sentence. |
