| Example of Popular Sovereignty? | In the preamble of the Constitution, it states "We the people of the US...do ordain and establish this constitution for the United States of America" |
| Limited Government example | The constitution (freedom of religion, speech, of the press, and of petition) |
| What is limited government? | The government must obey the law |
| What is popular sovereignty? | All political power resides in the people |
| What is the separation of powers? | DIstribution of the three basic powers |
| What is an example of separation of powers? | The legislative branch (Congress), the executive branch (President), and the judicial branch (the courts) |
| What is check and balances? | Each branch has certain powers with which it can check the operations of the other two |
| What are examples of checks and balances? | The president has the power to veto and act of congress. Congress can override a presidential veto by a 2/3 vote in each house. |
| What is judicial review? | The power of a court to determine the constitutionality of a governmental action |
| What's an example of judicial review? | Supreme court; the courts declaring a law to be or not to be constitutional |
