Verbs
A word describing an action.
| Term | Definition |

| Main verbs | Also called a lexical verb, this type of verb refers to the most important verb in a sentence, which shows the action or state of being. |
| Auxiliary verbs | A verb used in forming the tenses, mood and voices of other verbs. |
| Give examples of primary auxiliary verbs. | Be, do and have. |
| Give examples of Modal auxiliary verbs. | Can, could, may, must, will, would, shall, should. |
| Dynamic verbs | These verbs tell us a specific, mental or perceptual action is taking place in a sentence. e.g. kick, speak,put,see. |
| Stative verbs | these verbs express a state rather than an action. They usually relate to thoughts, emotions,senses and states of beings. e.g. like, know, belong, recognize, see, taste, deny, astonish. |
