myoparesis weakness or slight muscular paralysis
bradykinesia extreme slowness in body movement
fibromyalgia syndrome Individuals displaying symptoms of pain in their arms and legs, fatigue and diffuse joint and bone pain are suffering from a chronic condition known as
paraplegia paralysis of lower half of the body
quadriplegia paralysis of both arms and legs; results in partial or total loss of all movement in the limbs and torso
sarcopenia A normal process of aging in which muscles lose strength and mass that can be improved by exercise regimens and that can slow the process
-plegia paralysis (or stroke?)
hemiplegia paralysis on one side of ze body
paresis muscular weakness
dyskinesia impairment of voluntary movement (e.g. tic or spasm)
plantar fasciitis inflammation on the plantar fascia on the sole of the foot
epicondylitis inflammation of the tissue surrounding ze elbow
myoclonus The sudden, involuntary jerking of a muscle or group of muscles
-taxia coordination, internal ordering
ataxia lack of muscle coordination during voluntary movement
myocele the protrusion of muscle substance through a tear in the fascia surrounding it
dorsiflexion when a foot bends upward at the ankle
Impingement syndrome occurs when inflamed and swollen tendons are caught in the narrow space between the bones within the shoulder joint
deltoid muscle forms the muscular cap of the shoulder
spasm a sudden, involuntary contraction of one or more muscles
Overuse tendinitis inflammation of tendons caused by excessive or unusual use of a joint
Torticollis A stiff neck due to a spasmodic contraction of the neck muscles
strain an injury to the body of the muscle or to the attachment of a tendon
transverse crosswise
rectus straight
sphincter ring-like
oblique slanted at an angle
lateralis toward the side
neuromuscular blocker a drug that causes temporary paralysis by blocking the transmission of nerve stimuli to the muscles
Intermittent claudication pain in the leg muscles that occurs during exercise and is relieved by rest
myolysis the degeneration of muscle tissue
hamstring injury a strain or tear on any of the three muscles that straighten the hip and bend the knee
tendon fibrous connective tissue
deltoid muscular cap of shoulder
myocardial heart muscle
sphincter ring-like muscle
gluteus maximus buttock muscle
Myofascial release a specialized soft-tissue manipulation technique used to ease the pain of conditions such as fibromyalgia
flexion the movement during which the knees or elbows are bent to decrease the angle of the joints
Myorrhexis the rupture or tearing of a muscle
Hyperkinesia abnormally increased muscle function or activity AKA hyperactivity
