Reflexive | any quantity is equal to itself. -2=-2 |
Symmetric | if one quantity equals a second quantity then the second quantity equals the first.if 3+2=5 then 5=3+2 |
Transitive | If one quantity equals a second quantity and the second quantity equals a third quantity then the first quantity equals the third quantity. if 3+2=5, 5=1+4 then 3+2=5 |
Substitution | A quantity may be substituted for its equal in any expression. if t=6 and 2t=2[6]=12 |
Additive identity | add 0 to a variable. 10+0=10 |
Additive inverse | equals 0 when adding. 5+[-5]=0 |
Multiplicative identity | multiplying by 1. 21x1=21 |
Multiplicative property of zero | multiplying by 0 equals 0. 31x0=0 |
Multiplicative inverse | for every number a/b, where a, b=0, there is exactly one number b/a such that the product of a/b is 1. a/bx b/a=1 |
Commutative | the order in which you add or multiply numbers Does not change the sum or product. 3+2=2+3. 4[7]=7[4] |
Associative | the way you group 3 or more numbers when adding or multiplying Does not change their sum or product. 2+[4+6]={2+4}+6 |
