| Term | Definition |

| Relation | A set of ordered pairs |
| Function | A relation that each domain element with EXACTLY ONE range element - each input has one output |
| Independent Variable | In a function, the "x" variable, or input, which can take on any value you choose |
| Dependent Variable | In a function, the "y" variable, or output, which happens as a result of the function |
| Domain | The set of all inputs or "x" values |
| Range | The set of all outputs or "y" values |
| Continuous | A function all in one piece, with no breaks or gaps |
| Discrete | A function with individual, distinct points |
| Vertical Line Test | If a vertical line NEVER touches the graph of a relation in more than one place, then it is a function, because all of the inputs have EXACTLY ONE output |
