| Onomatopoeia | A word that imitates the sound it represents |
| Character | A person presented in a short story, novella, novel, or drama. If an animal, a natural force, or even a concept is presented with human characteristics or qualities, then that also can be presented as a character. |
| Dynamic Character | One who does not stay the same and typically experiences some sort of life change or change in personality or attitude |
| Static Character | One that remains basically the same throughout the entire story, holding true to his original values, beliefs, personality, and attitude. |
| Flat Character | A character having only one or two sides, or only one or two dimensions. |
| Round Character | A character who is complex and has multiple sides and traits. |
| Implication | To infer some of what a character is like through the sequence of the story. |
| Jargon | Certain words or phrases distinctive to a particular person or group. |
