Term | Definition |

Absolute value | a number's distance from zero |
Additive inverse | What you add to a number to get zero |
Associate Property | For all real numbers, the sum or the product is always the same, regardless of their grouping |
Commutative Property | For all real numbers, can be added or multiplied in any order without changing the answer |
Constant | A fixed value; a value that does not change |
Distributive property | For all real numbers, multiplying a number by a group of numbers that added or subtracted is the same as doing each multiplication separately |
Irrational number | a number that cannot be expressed as a ratio of two integers or as a repeating or terminating decimal |
Perfect square | a number that has integers as its square roots |
Proportion | two ratios that are equal |
Rate | A ratio that compares two quantities measured in different units |
Real numbers | a rational or irrational number |
Scientific notation | a method of writing very large or very small numbers by using powers of 10 |
Simplify | to perform all possible operations, including combining like terms; to write a fraction or expression in simplest terms |
Square root | a number that is multiplied by itself to form a product |
