Protagonist Central Character
Antagonist Person opposing antagonist
One-Dimensional/static character Character who doesn't change through the story, only 1 main trait
Three-Dimesional/Dynamic character Character who undergoes significant change or growth through story
Exposition Part of story that introduces background info about characters, setting, or conflict
Inciting Incident Event that introduces the central conflict in a story
Rising Action Events that develop the conflict to a high point of intensity
Climax Highest point of interest or suspense in a work
Crisis The point of no return in the story
Resolution Point where the central conflict is ended
Denoument Information that ties up loose ends in a story
Setting Time and place where story occurs
Symbol Object that stands for or represents a larger idea
Foreshadowing Objects and events that hint things to come in story
Theme Central idea of the literary work that the author wants readers to learn from the story
Mood Emotion created in the reader
Suspense Feeling of anxiety or curiosity that the author creates
Irony Difference between appearance and reality
Irony of Situation Event that contradicts the expectations of the character or the reader
