| Character motivation | the reason or reasons a character acts, feels, or thinks in a certain way |
| Character development | how a character changes throughout a story |
| Setting | the time and place in which the action occurs. The time can be a particular time of day, season, year, or historical period. The place can be an outside location, a room, a building , or a country. |
