Mathematical Terms

Decimal, Fraction, percentage...

TermDefinition
Proper Fraction A part of a whole which is represented and written by figures, where there is a line, a number on above and a number below. It is called a Proper Fraction because the number on the top is smaller than the number on the bottom. EG. 2/4
Improper Fraction It is a number representing many parts which are all together bigger than a whole. It is called an Imprper Fraction because the number on the top is bigger than the number below.
Mixed fraction A whole number with a Proper fraction. EG. 4 2/3
Numerator The number above the fraction line.
Denominator The number below the fraction.
Decimal A number with a point and other numbers on the right of the point. EG. 2.3
Percentage A number which which is written out of 100 to represent a part of a whole. EG. 25%
