Measurement

A-03, A-04, A-05

TermDefinition
discontinuous measurement some instances of the behavior may not be detected; you aren't observing every occurrence of the behavior
discontinuous measurement estimating the actual occurrence of the behavior, rather than recording every instance
partial interval, whole interval, momentary time sampling (MTS) what are the 3 ways of recording discontinuous measurement
direct measurement behavior is actually observed; it is the same behavior that is the focus of the data collection
indirect measurement interviews or questionnaires
partial interval discontinuous, direct time sampling procedure where a behavior is recorded as occurring, if it occurs at least once during the predetermined interval
partial interval may overestimate occurrence of the target behavior; findings are reported as a percentage rate
whole interval discontinuous, direct time sampling method; a behavior is recorded as occurring if it is observed throughout an entire predetermined interval
whole interval may underestimate occurrence of target behavior; only record the behavior if it occurred entire interval
momentary time sampling discontinuous, direct data sampling procedure when (at the end of a predetermined interval) a recording is made if the target behavior is occurring at that moment
momentary time sampling may underestimate occurrence of behavior; findings are reported as a percentage or rate; you watch to see if the behavior occurred at the end of the interval; if it is occurring at that moment, you would mark that interval
permanent product the things people produce as a result of their behavior
permanent product quiz, written essay, completed project, house built, dinner made, picture taken
level the range between the lowest data point in a set and the highest
trend when you draw a line through the data points that is closet to matching each individual point; defined by the "Pearson's r coefficient"
variability a somewhat subjective measure when evaluated visually; how consistent the data points are to each other
variability when lacking this, a stable pattern is almost completely at the same level, looks like a horizontal line if you connect data points
variability when this is high, it is difficult or impossible to draw the trend line
variable data in a function analysis, this might suggest an automatic reinforcement function

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
