| Cunningly | in a clever way that is meant to trick or deceive |
| Gait | a manner of waling or moving on foot |
| Consolation | To comfort, to provide comfort |
| Cower | to crouch or shrink down in fear |
| Revive | to return to life |
| Fledgling | a young bird that has recently grown its flight feathers |
| Valiant | brave; courageous |
| Singe | to burn lightly |
| Disheveled | being in loose disarray; unkempt, as hair or clothing |
| Exposition | introduction to the story, which includes the characters and the setting |
| Rising Action | presents a central conflict within a character or between one or more characters; the conflict builds during the rising action |
| Climax | it occurs when the conflict is at its peak; point of greatest suspense |
| Falling Action | occurs after the climax when the reader is still unsure if the protagonist will be able to resolve the conflict |
| Denouement | also called the resolution, is the conclusion to the plot |
