Simile Her smile is like sunshine, bright and warm.
Personification The tree groaned in pain as it fell to the ground.
Imagery Autumn leaves in every shade of brown and gold covered the forest floor.
Personification The dog laughed with happiness when his owner scratched his belly.
Metaphor Martin glowed with pride as he received his trophy.
Rhyme There is nothing quite as sad as death. The loss of life, the end of breath.
Personification Winter’s cool breath blew through the frozen trees.
Repetition Someone knocked loudly on the door. Bang, bang, bang.
Alliteration The sneaky snakes slithered slyly across the grass.
Metaphor The stars are diamonds in the sky.
Repetition They came, they saw, they conquered.
Rhyme Sitting snug and warm on the mat Was a large and happy ginger cat.
Imagery Her hair was a glossy black, and she had eyes the colour of the sea on a summer’s day.
