| analogous | comparison of two things based on them being alike in some way |
| evolution | the theory that all the kinds of living things that exist today developed from earlier types |
| trait | an inherited characteristic |
| ancestor | a person from whom one is descended and who lived several generations ago. |
| paleontology | is the study of plants and animals that lived millions of years ago. |
| genetics | is the study of heredity, or how certain features pass from parents to their offspring, or young |
| embryology | the branch of biology that studies the formation and early development of living organisms |
| anatomy | the study of the structure of living things- the parts that form a living thing |
| heredity | the passing on of characteristics (as the color of the eyes or hair) from parents to offspring. |
