Word formation processes
| Term | Definition |

| Clipping | a word formation process which consists in the reduction of a word to one of its parts |
| Blending | a word formed from parts of two or more other words |
| Conversion | a kind of word formation involving the creation of a word (of a new word class) from an existing word (of a different word class) without any change in form |
| Backformation | a word that is formed from an already existing word from which it appears to be a derivative, often by removal of a suffix |
| Acronym | a word made up from the first letters of the name of something such as an organization |
| Borrowing | he process by which a word from one language is adapted for use in another |
