Where is cerebrospinal fluid formed It is produced by the ependymal cells that line the ventricles in the brain and the canal within the spinal cord.
What is the functional unit of the nervous system? neuron
What are the three layers of the meninges from the outermost to innermost? dura mater, arachnoid, pia mater
What is the largest part of the brain? Cerebrum
The only connection between the right and left hemispheres of the cerebrum is what? corpus callosum
What does the cerebellum do for the body? receives sensory information about muscle tone and the position of the body
hypothalamus coordinates the activities of the pons and medulla oblongata
thalamus acts as a relay station, receiving sensory information
medulla oblongata It contains the respiratory centers that automatically set the respiratory rate and other centers that control the heart rate
midbrain It keeps the mind conscious. It coordinates immediate reflex responses to things you see or hear
Afferent Nerves that carry sensory nerve impulses from the body to the spinal cord or brain
efferent Nerves that carry motor nerve impulses from the spinal cord or brain to the body
frontal lobe function Originates conscious thought and intelligence
parietal lobe function Analyzes sensory information about touch, temperature, vibration, and pain
temporal lobe function Analyzes sensory information about hearing Analyzes sensory information about smells
occipital lobe function Analyzes sensory information about vision
What does the central nervous system consist of contains the brain and the spinal cord
What does the peripheral nervous system consist of? the autonomic nervous system (which includes the parasympathetic and sympathetic divisions) and the somatic nervous system
What does the autonomic nervous system consist of? the parasympathetic division and the sympathetic division
What does the Somatic nervous system consist of? controls the voluntary movements of skeletal muscles
Parasympathetic Division does what for the body? rest and digest” activities
Sympathetic Division does what for the body? is active when the body is active or exercising
