| Diction | Choice and use of words and phrases in speech or writing. |
| Connotation | Idea or feeling that a word invokes in addition to its literal or primary meaning. |
| Consonance | Repetitive sounds produced by consonants in a sentence. |
| Hyperbole | Exaggered statements or claims not meant to be taken literally. |
| Ode | Lyrical poem in the form of an address to a particular subject |
| Elegy | Sad poem, usually written to praise and express sorrow for someone who has died. |
| Dramatic Monologue | Poem in the form of speech or narrative by an imagined person. |
| Ballad | Poem or song narrating a story in short stanzas. |
| Lyric poem | Formal type of poetry which exspresses personal feelings or emotions. |
| Scansion | The action of scanning a line or verse to determine its rhythem. |
| Free verse | Poetry that does not rhyme or have pattern. |
| Meter | Unit of rhythem in a poem. |
| Foot | Combination of stressed and unstressed symbols. |
| Aphrodite | Goddess of Love, Beauty, and Pleasure. |
