Order of Operations

TermDefinition
Operations addition, subtraction, multiplication division
Numerical Expression a phrase that represents a single value. It consists of one or more numbers and operations
Equation a statement that says that two amounts are equal. An equation has two balanced sides joined by an equal sign
Parenthesis the symbols used to show which operation or operations in an expression should be done first
Brackets a pair of symbols used to enclose sections of a mathematical expression
Ordering to put 3 or more numbers in a specific arrangement, usually least to greatest or greatest to least
Sequence a group of items that come one after another
Order of Operations rules used to clarify which procedures should be performed first in a given mathematical expression
