Number Theory

TermDefinition
Factor all the whole numbers that can be divided exactly into another number
Common Factor a number that will divide into two numbers evenly. Two is a common factor of 4 and 14.
Prime Number a counting number that can only be divided by 1 and itself
Factor Tree a diagram showing prime factors
Composite Number a whole number that can be divided evenly by numbers other than 1 or itself
Greatest Common Factor GCF - the largest whole number that can be divided by both parts of a fraction
Factor Pair a pair of numbers that are multiplied together to form another number called the product
Prime Factor a prime number that divided exactly into a given number
Multiple a number that can be divided exactly by another number
