Unit 7 Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Circumference The distance around a circle.
Pi The ratio of a circle's circumference to it's diameter.
Area The number of square units a figure encloses.
Inscribed Figure A polygon completely within the boundaries of another polygon.
Solid Three-dimensional figure that are objects that do not lie in a plane.
Prism This solid has two parallel bases that are congruent polygons, and lateral faces that are parallelograms.
Pyramid This solid has one base, which is a polygon, and the lateral faces are triangles.
Cylinder This solid has two bases that are parallel congruent circles.
Cone This solid has exactly one circular base and one vertex.
Net A pattern that can be folded to form a solid.
Cross Section The resulting two-dimensional figure when a solid is cut by a plane.
Surface Area The sum of the areas of the surfaces of a solid.
Lateral Area The sum of the areas of the lateral surfaces of a solid.
Volume The number of unit cubes needed to fill a solid.
Similar Solids These solids have the same shape and all of their corresponding lengths are proportional.
