Words, definitions and equations from Chapters 9 & 10

Area of Rectangle A = L x W
Area of Square A = S^2
Area of Parallelogram A = B x H
Area of Triangle A = 1/2 B x H
Quadrilateral A polygon with four sides
Triangle A polygon with three sides
Hexagon A polygon with six sides
Pentagon A polygon with five sides
Rhombus A quadrilateral with four congruent sides
Square A quadrilateral with four congruent sides and four right angles
Parallelogram A quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides
Trapezoid A quadrilateral with only one pair of parallel sides
Regular Polygon A polygon with all sides congruent and all angles congruent
Diagonal A segment that connects two non-adjacent vertices of a polygon
Right Triangle A triangle with one right angle
Acute Triangle A triangle with three acute angles
Obtuse Triangle A triangle with one obtuse angle
Triangle angle sum The sum of the measures of the three angles of a triangle is 180 degrees
Quadrilateral angle sum The sum of the measures of the four angles of a quadrilateral is 360 degrees
Equilateral Triangle A triangle with three congruent sides
Isosceles Triangle A triangle with two congruent sides
Scalene Triangle A triangle with no congruent sides (all sides are different lengths)
Area The amount of space inside a shape
Perimeter The length around the outside of a shape
Supplementary Angles A pair of angles with a sum of 180 degrees
Complimentary Angles A pair of angles with a sum of 90 degrees
