| Quadratic Function | a type of function that is nonlinear and its rate of change is not constant. |
| Standard form of a quadratic function | a quadratic function in the form ax^2 + bx + c |
| quadratic parent function | the simplest form of a quadratic function y = x^2 or f(x) = x^2 |
| parabola | the graph of a quadratic function is a U-shaped curve |
| axis of symmetry | the fold or line that divides the parabola exactly in half or two matching pieces. |
| vertex | the highest or lowest point on a parabola |
| minimum | if the parabola opens upward, the vertex is the lowest point |
| maximum | if the parabola opens downward, the vertex is the highest point |
| root of an equation | The x-values that make the quadratic equation equal to zero , also known as the x-intercepts of the quadratic function. |
| zero of a function | Another name for the root of an equation, solutions of a quadratic, and the x-intercepts. |
