Main Idea what a piece of writing is mostly about
theme central message or deeper meaning
genre some examples are fiction, nonfiction, drama, poetry
fiction tells a made up story
nonfction tells about real life people, places , events, or thngs
drama a play performed by actors
myth a story about gods and goddesses
fable a tale with talking animals that has a moral to it
analogy shows a comparison between two things
simile compares using the words like or as
metaphor compares without using the words like or as
context clues anything that helps you learn the meaning of an unknown word
denotation the dictionary meaning of a word (its literal meaning)
connotation the meaning we give to it, usually slang language
onomatopoeia a word or phrase that imitates a sound
